Chapter 1: Reading the Bible from the Streets

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. marches with other faith leaders in Selma, Alabama. Rabbi Abraham Heschel said, “It felt like my feet were praying.”

Reading the Bible from the streets means changing your perspective, literally, by being with those who are struggling to bring the vision of the Kingdom of God into reality.  Nobody has been better at connecting up the Bible and the streets than Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., though there are other important models as well.

Chapter 1 is about developing this new way of seeing the world and seeing the Bible and connecting them up so that the real message of Jesus of Nazareth comes through in our time.
